A huge fire has broken out at an 18th Century stately home in Surrey.

Clandon Park is a Palladian mansion built in the 1720s (PA)

Believed to have started in the basement after 4pm before spreading to the roof, the blaze at Clandon Park House is currently being tackled by firefighters.

The building, which is a popular wedding venue, was built by a Venetian architect for Lord Onslow in the 1720s and passed down through generations of the family before being left to the National Trust in 1956.

Start Fire at Green Party-Run Hove Town Hall

A large fire occurred yesterday at Hove Town Hall caused by a faulty solar panel on the roof of the building. No-one was hurt. Locals have been quick to take aim at the Green party with jibes over their record in office at Brighton and Hove city council, which owns the building.

The fire started in the early afternoon, sending up billowing clouds of thick black smoke which could be seen from miles around. Firemen were in attendance shortly after 1pm, and were able to extinguish the flames within the hour.
