Fire Risk Assessments are a legal requirement, are reuired inorder to protect staff, users of commercial premises and visitors to your work place. Many employers see Fire Risk Assessments as a burden, or don't even realise that there is a legal obligation to have an assessment in place.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 has been in place since since 2006. Many businesses that have ignored their responsibilites under the Reform Order have ended up on the wrong end of a prosecution. This has not only led to fines, but in some cases the guilty party has received a prison sentence.
The Fire Risk Assessment should just be seen as a necessary evil, it can also be seen as a tool to help the business as a whole as highighted in the article below:
