Gleadless is a suburb in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, originally a rural hamlet before becoming part of Sheffield in 1921. Historically, it was centered on agriculture and small-scale coal mining, with its geology providing accessible coal seams. Significant growth occurred in the 19th century as the demand for coal attracted many miners, particularly after the development of the Birley East Colliery in 1887. The Sheffield Tramway's expansion in the early 20th century marked the end of its village era, significantly altering its employment demographics and leading to urban integration.

Today, Gleadless is a well-integrated suburban community, characterized by above-average living standards and low unemployment. It is predominantly residential, with a predominantly white population and features excellent transport connections, including three Sheffield Supertram stops.
