McCarthy’s Site Fire, Leeds

Firefighters have been tackling a blaze at a storage centre on the outskirts of Leeds city centre.  Crews were called to the McCarthy’s site on Education Road off Meanwood Road in Sheepscar shortly before 11am today.  A spokeswoman for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said three units in one single storey building were involved.
Fire engines from Leeds, Hunslet and Moortown were in attendance at the site, which operates as a compressed paper and cardboard storage facility.  There were no reports of anyone being injured.  In an update at 1.15pm, the fire service said the incident had been brought under control.  Firefighters were expected to remain at the scene throughout this afternoon to work with contractors removing unaffected bales of pap
